Concert Photography Challenges

Writer's picture: Ipo NicoleIpo Nicole

As a photographer always looking for a good photography challenge I stepped up to shooting a couple of concerts. Pushing my cameras limits, playing with all sorts of light, and absolutely loving the backstage action.

As Kaikena Scanlan steps on the scene the crowd is truly enthralled. Capturing the vibration of the music and feeling of the night is what I inspired to do. There is no "redo" no "oh can you just turn that way again" no "hold still", it's pure action. Lights, crowd, sounds, how do you capture all that in a photo?

Did I mention backstage media passes are the golden egg to my happiness? Like what! Did I really get to Photograph the Jason Mamoa! Down to earth, friendly and honestly just enjoying the show

I was thankful for the few moments he stepped aside for the fans but totally was stoked that he was just having fun listening to Katchafire and Kaikena.

I feel another part of the scene to really show the vibe and feeling of the show is in the venue. Photographing the surroundings, What's being sold? How's the bar flowing? And overall enthusiasm of the the crowd. Truly a pleasure to challenge my photography and push the limits of what I know and what I have to learn about photography.

If you are interested in hiring me to shoot a concert or other commercial event let me know!

Thank you so much for reading my blog, as an appreciation here is a link to the full gallery of that night all high resolution downloads for free, including the Pryde of Gypsies and what shots I have of the band.
